The Seagulls are gone from Victoria

"That year, I suddenly realized that I could no longer see the seagulls in Victoria Harbour. "

Gallery ONI cordially invites you to visit Chris LO SZE LIM’s Retrospective Exhibition titled "The Seagulls Have Gone from Victoria." This exhibition offers a captivating journey that delves into the life of ceramic art through the works of Chris.

From the inaugural solo exhibition "Painted Ceramics" in 1994 to "Not in Distant Mountain" in 2022, Chris has devoted 30 years to ceramic art, a journey encompassing various mediums, including functional objects, installations, and sculptures.

"By using clay as a medium to pot and to sculpt, the process is simple and direct. After firing, it transforms and is reborn into eternity."

Throughout the years, Chris has explored various forms of expression, experimented with diverse making techniques, unraveled complex concepts, and narrated the story of life through clay.

His work is not about accuracy, skill, or techniques, it presents another kind of truth and perception of life.

"There is joy in being able to pot and sculpt with clay. While doing so, the soul feels free like the seagulls that used to fly over Victoria Harbour. "
